Cadet Initial Entry Training (CIET)

The Cadet Initial Entry Training (CIET) is the premier leadership program of its kind in the United States. An intense four-week introduction to Army life and leadership training of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps, the aim of the course is to motivate and qualify Cadets for entry into the Senior ROTC program. CIET, as it's known, is designed for college students, typically between their sophomore and junior years. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can take part in ROTC at their college as a third-year student in the four-year program.

While attending CIET at Fort Knox, Ky., Cadets gain an experience that runs the gamut of Army life and the responsibilities of being an officer. The course instills confidence and decision-making abilities to become a leader, in the Army and in life.Cadets spend their first few days learning Army basics under the tutelage of drill sergeants. They also take their first Army Physical Fitness Test, which consists of sit-ups, push-ups and a two-mile run. Shortly after the course begins, Cadets are introduced to working in a small-group team-based dynamic in activities such as an obstacle course to accomplish set goals.

Cadet Leadership Course (CLC)

The Cadet Leadership Course (CLC) is now held annually at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The U.S. Army's largest training exercise, CLC is the U.S. Army Cadet Command's capstone training event. The purpose of the course is to train U.S. Army ROTC Cadets to Army standards, to develop their leadership skills, and to evaluate their officer potential. Most Army Cadets attend CLC between their junior and senior undergraduate years after having contracted to join the Army. Successful completion of CLC is a prerequisite to becoming an Army officer through ROTC.

The 29-day course starts with individual training and leads to collective training, building from simple to complex tasks. This building-block approach permits integration of previously-learned skills into follow-on training. This logical, common-sense training sequence is maintained for each training cycle. Every day at CLC is a day of training. 

Cultural Understanding & Language Proficiency Program (CULP)

For Army ROTC Cadets, the world is their classroom. Every year hundreds of Cadets travel the globe, spending up to three weeks immersed in foreign cultures, learning more about how others around the world view the U.S. and, in the process, learning more about themselves.

The Army recognizes the need for young leaders to develop more cultural awareness and foreign language proficiency skills. Now more than ever, cultural awareness training is a vital component to the ROTC curriculum. Overseas immersions help educate future leaders in ways the classroom cannot.

Cadets now have the opportunity to compete for immersion in more than 40 countries. These opportunities expose them to everyday life in different cultures and intensifies language study, which helps produce commissioned officers who possess the right blend of language and cultural skills required to support global operations in the 21st Century.

CADET PRACTICAL FIELD TRAINING

The CPFT program includes training at Army Schools and special courses for Air Assault, Basic Airborne, Mountain Warfare, Northern Warfare, Cadet Field Training at USMA, SF Combat Diver Qualification Course, Cadet Leadership Development (Infantry) WHINSEC.

Generally, in a typical year, the total number of CPFT allocations equals approximately ten percent of the cadet population at large. Battalion commanders will prepare, select and send to CPDT only those with the highest potential for completing the CPDT training and for being commissioned. Cadet Command pays for travel. Billeting and mess are provided by the installation in most cases. All cadets must meet the eligibility criteria to be selected.

Cadet Leader Training (CLT)

Cadet Leader Training is a two track program (CTLT, DCLT). Most positions are linked to a specific regiment of the Cadet Leadership Course (CLC) and are a follow on training assignment after CLC.  

     Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT)

The Cadet Troop Leader Training (CTLT) track provides Cadets the opportunity to experience leadership in Army Table of Organization and Equipment (TO&E) units over a three to four week period. Cadets serve in lieutenant-level leadership positions in active-duty units. Platoon Leader positions have a 3-4 week duration depending on the hosting unit and location. Assignments include units that are located CONUS and OCONUS. Cadets are assigned a unit mentor, and are provided on-post lodging and meals via a Dining Facility. This program is exclusively designed for MS III Cadets before and after completion of CLC.

     Drill Cadet Leadership Training (DCLT)

The four-week Drill Cadet Leadership Training (DCLT) track provides Cadets the opportunity to serve in a platoon leader or executive officer position in Initial Military Training companies and work closely with Drill Sergeants and other cadre. Cadets experience leadership training with Initial Military Training (IMT) Companies. Positions lengths vary in duration depending on the host unit and location. Cadets an opportunity to apply leadership skills, interact with highly skilled and experienced Noncommissioned Officers (NCOs) and drill sergeants, and improves common task skill proficiency in an Army training environment. Cadets must attend a Staff Cadre Training Course (SCTC) prior to training in IMT units. This program is exclusively designed for MS III Cadets.

Cadet Troop Leader Training Internships

CTLT Internships provide MSL III Cadets with an opportunity to exercise specialized language, technical or research skills. Internships range from three to eight weeks long and can be conducted before or after the required CLC.  There are generally two types of internships, Research or Specialty Internships and Degree-Based Internships, which each have multiple programs to choose.
